MatchGrade
About

We publish the arithmetic, not the adjectives.

MatchGrade covers precision rifles, factory match ammunition, optics and reloading equipment — and tries very hard not to tell you anything it cannot back up.

What this site is

An independent buyer's guide for people who shoot at distance. Every recommendation points to Ammunition Depot, an online retailer we are an affiliate of, and every outbound link is tracked so we get paid when a purchase happens.

How we handle numbers

Three rules, and they are the reason this site exists:

  • No prices published here. Ammunition pricing moves weekly and stock moves daily. A cached price is a lie with a timestamp on it, so every commercial link says check current price and sends you to the merchant to see it live.
  • No invented ballistics. Ballistic coefficients, velocities and group sizes are published by manufacturers under their own test conditions. Where we use them, we say whose numbers they are. We do not measure ammunition ourselves and we will not pretend otherwise.
  • No fabricated testing. There are no staged group photos here and no reviews of rifles nobody fired. Where we are working from specification rather than experience, the page says so.

What “match grade” means to us

It describes tighter manufacturing tolerances and greater lot-to-lot consistency. It is not a certification, no regulator defines it, and it guarantees no particular group size in any particular rifle. We repeat this on the homepage because the entire category depends on people not thinking about it too hard.

How we make money

Affiliate commission on qualifying purchases made through outbound links, at no extra cost to you. It does not change our recommendations, because a recommendation that loses you money loses us a reader — a considerably more expensive outcome.
