Cost per round
Match ammunition is priced by the box and consumed by the season. This converts one into the other, splits match ammunition from practice, and shows what the difference between two loads actually costs you over a year.

Your season
Most people shoot cheaper ammunition to practise and save match loads for matches. Put your practice cost in that last box and the season total splits properly.
What it costs
What this deliberately ignores
Cost per round is box price divided by round count. Season cost is match rounds times match cost plus practice rounds times practice cost. There is nothing clever happening — the value is in seeing the annual number instead of the box number.
Not included
- Shipping, hazmat and tax, which can move cheap bulk ammunition more than expensive match ammunition in percentage terms.
- Match fees, travel and barrel life. Barrels are a real per-round cost that most people ignore until the throat is gone.
- Component reloading, where the economics change completely once brass is amortised over several firings.
Cheapest per round is not the same as cheapest per hit. A load that costs 20 cents more but keeps you in the ten ring is the cheaper option in any way that counts.
